Hoodectomy Information Page
This site is dedicated to hoodectomy (also called
clitoral unhooding or de-hooding, clitorodotomy, or
clitoroplasty): the surgical removal of the clitoral
prepuce (the hood), with the result that the clitoral
glans (the sensitive tip of the clitoris) is permanently
exposed for direct stimulation. The purpose of this
site is to make infornation about hoodectomy more
widely available, so that women and those who love
them can make more informed decisions about this
surgery.  This minor procedure is undergone as an
elective surgery for the enhancement of sexual
response.  It is therefore not at all to be confused
with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), all forms of
which are performed on non-consenting women or
girls and are intended to minimize or eliminate
altogether their enjoyment of sex, and all of which
are sometimes misleadingly called "female
circumcision." The Webmaster of this page wholly
supports international efforts to eliminate these forms
of FGM.

Medical Studies
Brief summaries of and links to reports of medical studies done on the effectiveness of this
procedure.  Three of these studies (one reported in  the
Journal of Sexual Medicine, one in
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and one in Scientific American) emphatically affirm the
effectiveness of this surgery.  The first of these is a national study involving hundreds of women
and several surgeons and gives a satisfaction rate of 97.2%.  The second, also involving hundreds
of women reports 98% of patients saying they would elect to have the procedure again, if they
had to make the choice again.  Some older studies are also summarized, and this page also
includes a report by a researcher comparing the nerve-endings of the clitoral glans with the penile
glans. (Updated: January 26, 2010)
Reports in Print Media
Brief summaries of several articles in various magazines in which women who had their hoods
removed report their experiences and results.  All such reports have been extremely enthusiastic.
